George Vondriska teaches you how to sharpen your bench chisels by using a 9 micron, diamond-embedded whetstone. He demonstrates a few different tricks for properly completing the process, including lubricating the stone with water, using the index finger on your opposite hand to keep the blade flat against the surface of the stone, painting the blade black with a felt-tip pen, and putting the chisel in a rolling sharpening device.

George, I went one step further and added a stop to the board for repeating the same angle with all my chisels. This way I didn’t have to worry about being off a bit when looking at the pencil line in the sometimes dull light of my workshop.

That’s a great idea! I’m sure it helps make the results very repeatable.
